Welcome!

I'm a freelance writer based in New York City.
My work has appeared in outlets ranging from The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune to The Economist and Wired.com.
I've interviewed the likes of Herbie Hancock and Harry Connick Jr., and harassed such august personnages as Howard Dean and Leonard Nimoy. I've interrogated nanotechnologists, toy makers, and bagel bakers; pontificated as a guest on NPR's national news call-in show, Talk of the Nation; and narrowly missed having my picture taken with Mayor Michael Bloomberg at Gracie Mansion. I've even endangered my life through the excessive consumption of Jewish comfort foodall in the line of duty, of course.
I've also written a wide range of PR, marketing, and informational materials for companies like Kaplan and Universal Music Group; nonprofit organizations such as the College Board, the Scripps Research Institute, the Milken Family Foundation, and the American Association of Advertising Agencies; and colleges and universities like Columbia, Penn, and Juilliard.
In a former life, I was a college professor. No, seriously. I've also done time as a software developer, drummed for animal sacrifice in Ghana, and played jazz piano for nude modeling sessions at the Society of Illustrators here in New York. I've read my own work aloud to literally several people as part of Lit Crawl NYC, bombed doing standup comedy at the Bowery Poetry Club, embarassed myself performing improvisational theater at the Upright Citizens Brigade, contributed the occasional personal essay and work of short fiction to outifts like Fresh Yarn and Zeek, and somehow managed to turn a drunken binge in Spain's Sherry Triangle into a (relatively) classy column for Bartender Magazine.
So far, so good.
